The Circus Is In Town: A New York Jets Story Stuck
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 12:43 PM.

We all knew this was coming. This sideshow of a Jets team has been months in the making.

This didn't just start when the Jets traded for Tim Tebow. No, this started at the end of last season when they dropped their final three games and missed the playoffs.

Now we are all inundated with all Jets, all the time. This is truly a circus. So much so, Tim Tebow and the Jets overshadowed the Olympics.

Thanks to Deadspin.com's "BristolMetrics" we now have a breakdown of what the biggest national sports media company discusses on a weekly basis. Well, since the start of training camp that is Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez and the Jets.

This probably wasn't helped by the fact that ESPN was broadcasting live from Jets training camp in Cortland, New York.

NFL Network is no different. Outside of the Peyton Manning, the Jets were one of the most talked about teams. Thankfully, NFL Network didn't go all-in with the Jets like ESPN had, but it is impossible to miss the Jets this preseason.

Just for fun, what percentage of Jets fans do you think remember their first round pick this year? What about their second round pick? Now obviously readers will have the wonders of google at their disposal to look this up, but how many do you think remember DE Quinton Coples out of UNC and WR Stephen Hill out of Georgia Tech were their top two picks?

Personally, I would not guess more than 50%.

So what happens with the Jets this year?

The first half of their schedule is pretty brutal. I think a 3-5 first half before the bye would be huge for the Jets, unfortunately, I think that also means a QB controversy as fans will get restless with Mark Sanchez.

Assuming Tebow doesn't go on a miracle run, I think the Jets can finish, at best, 8-8 again. I think a 7-9 season is more realistic though. I could see them dropping a game or two late in the season on the road either in Tennessee or Buffalo.

No matter how this Jets team does this season every move will be scrutinized and, likely, nothing will be good enough for Jets fans and media short of a Super Bowl.

I expect a Quarterback controversy at some point in the season, and you should as well. I also expect a few blow ups from Rex Ryan and some players. One thing is certain, no matter what happens, we'll all have a front row seat to the show.

The real circus is the media. The Jets team and organization have done nothing that even resembles "circus like". There are no freak shows or crazy things going on in Jets camp. The team itself doesn't do anything wild or crazy. The players don't do anything freaky or weird. There is no circus. They traded for a backup quarterback. Wow, That's real circus like.

If mark plays terrible for the first three games, Tebow comes in and the media will eat this team alive every week.
